Aurora‘s Fold
An investigation between Here and There.
A proposed chapel for Air Force Veterans has a material and tectonic agenda that speaks about an experience. A veteran’s story of sunrise seen on the return journey and the resulting sense of relief and joy was the impetus for the project. It attempts to create a sacred space using masonry, steel trusses, and light. These imply ideas of technology (airplanes) and of place (church). The sanctuary is cloaked with opalescent glass in the colors of morning. Traces of the structure emerge through the glass and the scale of the ceiling suggests the wing spread of an airplane and the enormity of the unknown- positions between this world and that.
